SIOP Virtual Coaching and Face to Face Coaching

Do you have content or grade level teachers who attended SIOP (Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol) Training? Are they practicing their skills as related to the eight SIOP components? English Language consultants can help them refine their practices through virtual coaching.

Each content specialist or grade level teacher will engage in two coaching cycles. A cycle consists of an initial meeting, or first step, during which the consultant and teacher converse and plan. The second step involves the teacher recording their practices and uploading the video to be viewed by the consultant. The third step in the cycle includes consultant feedback, teacher reflection, and the development of an action plan for the scene coaching cycle. Teachers participating in the virtual coaching cycle will receive final input from an English Language consultant via rubric.

Throughout the process, the consultant and teacher are utilizing research-based strategies proven effective with English Learners. The eight SIOP strategies and practices apply to any student who struggles with academic vocabulary.

Capacity is limited.

Instructional Coaching: on-site and virtual

Coaching teachers drives the actual implementation of professional development.

Research based instructional coaching is provided by a certified instructional coach who is on-site working one-on-one with your teachers to improve teaching and learning.

This service can be enhanced and provided virtually. Teachers can video their lesson and send it electronically to one of our instructional coaches. The coach uses an electronic platform that allows for time stamped feedback for the teacher to read, reflect, and respond. The power of this approach lies in the teacher having to view their own video and reflect on what is seen.

Either approach can be customized to meet a district’s specific needs and goals.

Instructional Technology Coaching

Technology should be a tool to assist with the learning process. Many times teachers need a hand with seamlessly bringing technology into the classroom environment.

Our instructional technology consultants are skilled in providing side-by-side assistance by mentoring, team teaching, and modeling the use of technology to support instruction. They have experience facilitating conversations with faculty and administrators about changing instruction and assessment in the classroom.

We can also assist in the development of materials and resources to support staff members. The aim of our coaching is to develop capacity and foster growth in each school that is supported, so that when the time comes, the faculty and administration are self-sufficient. The coaching model will be developed with district or building leadership to devise the best outcomes for your staff. The number of days will be determined by district request.
