When notifying your school district that you want to home school your child, there are a few important steps to follow.

According to ORC 3321.042 of the Ohio Department of Education, parents must provide written notification to the superintendent of the school district, no later than the first week of September or within seven days of withdrawing their child from public school. The form can be found at New ORC 3321.042 Ohio Exemption Form. Parents approved before October 1, 2023, remain approved for the 2023-2024 academic school year.

The notification must include the required components which are:

  • parent’s name and address
  • child’s name
  • an assurance that the child will receive education in the subject areas of English language arts, mathematics, science, history, government, and social studies

The district superintendent will provide a written acknowledgement of receipt of the notice to the parent or guardian not later than fourteen calendar days after receiving the notice. Wellness Policy

Good nutrition and regular physical activity affect the health and well-being of children. Furthermore, research suggests that there is a positive correlation between a student’s health and well-being and his/her ability to learn. Schools can play an important role in the developmental process by which students establish their health and nutrition habits by providing nutritious meals and snacks through the schools’ meal programs, by supporting the development of good eating habits, and by promoting increased physical activity both in and out of school.

Hamilton County ESC has set goals in an effort to enable students to establish good health and nutrition habits. Read our HCESC Wellness Policy.
