Occupational Therapist – Long and Short Term Substitute

The Hamilton County Educational Service Center has a long and short term substitute Occupational Therapist position for the 2011-2012 school year.  Resumes will be accepted until the positions are filled.

JOB GOAL:
To identify, evaluate and provide specialized occupational therapy interventions to students who evidence physical, emotional, sensory and/or perceptual deficits when these deficits affect school performance and achievement.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Current Ohio license to practice as an Occupational Therapist.   Must have valid driver’s license and provide own transportation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1.Provide occupational therapy assessments as part of multi-factored evaluations in areas such as cognitive perceptual-motor skills, motor skills and coordination, self-care, muscle strength and range of motion, postural reflexes, need for adaptive devices, prosthetic training, prevocational and vocational skills.
2.Utilize good body mechanics, physical strength and mobility  during  expected and required movement activities with children to include lifting and moving children, demonstrating requested activities ( i.e. Jumping, running, hopping, crawling, lifting and managing materials, etc.) wheel chair transfers to a variety of surfaces,  moving up and down from the floor, using, moving and managing adaptive equipment and materials.
3.Assist in the development of individualized educational goals and strategies based on evaluation data and to maintain student files.
4.Provide therapy to improve, develop or restore sensory motor functions impaired or lost through illness, injury and/or deprivation as related to the educational program and to prevent, through early intervention, initial or further impairment or loss of function.
5.Direct and supervise the activities of the certified occupational therapy assistant, as appropriate.
6.Make appropriate referrals to medical agencies, specialists and other professionals on a need basis.
7.Comply with local, state and federal regulations regarding due process, confidentiality and other pertinent procedures
8.Maintain an efficient and effective itinerant schedule of schools with an effective mode of travel to destinations.
9.Work cooperatively with local district administrators, administrators of assigned schools, teachers, parents and other support service team members, with consultation as needed.
10.Submit all administrative reports and forms by the deadlines stipulated.
11.Demonstrate best practice and actively participate in professional growth and development.
12.Utilize own transportation to carry out school assignments, transport and manage instructional materials.
