PBS, or Positive Behavior Supports, is a broad range of systemic and individualized strategies for achieving important social and learning outcomes in school communities while preventing problem behavior. The key attributes of PBS include preventive activities, data-based decision making, and a problem solving orientation. Positive behavior supports are an essential practice within a three-tiered framework for response to intervention (RtI). It is critical for leadership teams to ensure that culturally responsive practices are embedded within a tiered system of positive behavior supports. To maximize school success for all students, it is essential that leadership teams also address the academic components of response to intervention. For more information, see the Resources pages: Culturally Responsive Practices and Response to Intervention.
