Job-Embedded Professional Development and Coaching

Hamilton County Educational Service Center is committed to providing professional learning opportunities that align to Ohio’s Standards for Professional Development.

Our primary and preferred approach to professional learning is job-embedded within the school or district. We believe that learning occurs best within the context of real work.

The following are examples of the type of work we did in 2008-09:

• A middle school contracted for one of our Math Consultants to do twenty-three days of job-embedded coaching with their staff.
• A district contracted for five full days of job-embedded coaching for teachers on practical lesson development and instructional strategies in reading and writing.
• A district contracted for eighty days of on-site technology support, including helping teachers incorporate technology into instruction.
• A district contracted, for the third consecutive year, for twenty days of working on-site and in classrooms on implementing common assessments for learning and grading for achievement.
• A district contracted for ten days of on-site observation and mentoring of a first-year principal.
• Several schools contracted for one day per week, for the entire school year, for job-embedded professional development and coaching.

Each of these contracts were developed through collaboration with district and building leaders to ensure that the service met their exact interests and needs.
