WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION: This Learning Institute and Cohort Series will focus on the critical skills necessary for teachers and students to be successful in the 21st Century.
The Pre- and Post- sessions will be through an on-line learning community beginning in September.
The Institute will feature Dr. Jamie McKenzie as the keynote speaker. In addition, participants will attend two additional breakout sessions including a second session with Dr. McKenzie.
In an ever changing society, changing times and new technologies all demand smart workers, leaders, parents and citizens capable of adapting and adjusting to shifting conditions. They must be ready for whatever comes and capable of making up new ways of operating when the old ways prove inadequate.
In his keynote address, Smart Enough for Whatever, Dr. Jamie McKenzie argues that schools can equip students with the original thinking skills to meet this challenge with confidence and relish. He applauds the learning goals listed by three national groups, all of whom call for innovation, creativity and originality, but he offers ways for schools to move past theory and rhetoric to dynamic practice.
Break out Session - Smart Enough for Whatever After
In this second session, Jamie takes the concepts introduced earlier and gives more examples of what schools can do to make sure each student is capable of innovative thinking. He shows how this approach should translate into stronger test scores as students grow in comprehension as well as synthesis skills. Ultimately, those who learn to think independently and creatively will score well on the tests of life as well as the toughest school tests in the land.
